Jackson, Bulger both beaten up as injury list continues to swell
The news keeps getting bleaker for the injury-riddled Rams, with the latest word on the team’s injury situation being far from promising. Suddenly, at the top of the team’s mounting injury list are the offense’s two biggest stars — RB Steven Jackson and QB Marc Bulger. It was learned Monday that Jackson, who had a productive day’s work in the Rams’ loss in Tampa Bay (30 carries for 115 yards and four catches for 18 yards), suffered a partially torn groin muscle in the fourth quarter of that game and will definitely miss this Sunday’s game in Dallas. Head coach Scott Linehan said Jackson’s injury was “week to week,” but the way we’re hearing it, Jackson is a good bet to miss at least two, and possibly three, games. It was also disclosed Monday that Bulger has been playing with two broken ribs, in addition to badly bruised knees, and that his fragile condition was in part responsible for the team’s extremely careful and conservative game plan against the Bucs that has been getting blasted by the local media. Might the Rams consider backup Gus Frerotte as an option to Bulger, who has appeared increasingly shell-shocked in the early going, operating behind an injury-ravaged line that keeps changing week to week? Team sources tell us that Linehan isn’t ready to go that route just yet, but that he might not have much choice if Bulger’s protection continues putting him in harm’s way as much as it has up to now.
